We heard so much in conference about how we need to waste less time on games and social networking for frivolous purposes and more on important things like family history. I love to do family history but I'm not always at my computer. When I'm looking to kill time I often turn to my smart phone to entertain me. How great would it be if instead of throwing angry birds against concrete blocks I could do indexing-on-the-go!

So that's the idea, an indexing app for smart phones (and not just the iPhone please because a lot of us have droids too). If there was an indexing/family history app, I would consider deleting all of my games and just do that when I had time to kill! This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Indexing App for Smart Phones, Great time cultivator.NOT waster! I'm excited to hear something about the technology that is going to be on demo at RootsTech to connect legacy indexes (I'm assuming like the Birth,Death,Marriage indexes for various areas that were done through the extraction program) with digital images! I wish there was a talk about this app at RootsTech in February too, but I know things take a long time so I am just glad it is being seriously considered. I believe I heard the same thing a couple years ago-that it is being seriously considered, but that is better than not being considered or worked on. I guess by now you actually are testing prototype apps in house you say?
That is progress since a couple years ago I guess. I guess by now you actually are testing prototype apps in house you say? That is progress since a couple years ago I guess. An announcement was made recently on the FamilySearch blog that the app was taken off the app stores. It will continue to work, but it looks like we will not be seeing any development in that direction any time soon. I believe they are moving in the direction of online indexing (as mentioned in this August article: and might try to make it replace both the app and the desktop software.
